What Are The Benefits Of Buying Remote Control Toys For Kids?

Many do not realise the excitement that remote control toys bring on the face of their children. Many perceive them as kid’s toys, and yes, they are. The moment you ask your child for that remote control when you are 30 or 90, and as long as you like to play around with things, and enjoy vehicles and trains, you will enjoy the thrill that these toys bring with them. It is because we never had such opportunities during our childhood.

But do you know these RC toys have their benefits on the kids? They are as follows –

It is fun

One of the primary reasons to play with such toys is the sheer fun it brings about. For instance, nothing is satisfying than watching the small toy train tearing through the tracks in full speed. You can control the speed as you like. Although the kids need supervision while using them, they play it independently most of the time. This way, they learn to form opinions and draw conclusions about the surrounding, which helps them improve their grades.

Competition

Through these remote-control games, you can indulge in some healthy competition with the peer and family members. If you have a remote-control car, you can compete with your family members and race the car in a better way than the opponent. This is the fascinating aspect of RC toys as it helps the kids to connect with their family members and remain more indoors than outdoors.

Socialising

Playing with such toys expands your friend circle. You will come across communities with RC clubs or gatherings on weekends and playing with varied toy trains are a great way for kids to make new friends and hone their social skills. The remote-control toys have evolved over the years. You even find adults playing with them in many gatherings.

Enhancing interest

The moment kids start playing with remote control toys, they start developing and embrace other interest. Maybe they would want to a railway driver or coach or racer if it is a toy car. These RC machines follow the same principle used for driving the real ones. Some schools use RC machines to teach some important lessons to kids in schools.

Hand and eye coordination

Like video games, remote control toys increase hand and eye coordination. This is because there is real navigation involved. Also, crashing and machine damage are real. Hence, these toys enhance the reaction time while driving the real ones.

Earthquake-damaged Fukushima nuclear power plant triggers evacuation

Friday, March 11, 2011

Japan’s government has declared its first ever “nuclear emergency” after pressure rises in the No. 1 reactor at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant, combined with a minor radiation leak, caused a 10 km radius around the plant to be evacuated. An attempt to relieve the pressure inside the containment vessels of the plant has been delayed.

The Tokyo Electric Power Company’s 40-year old nuclear facility, 270 km NE of Tokyo, reported mechanical difficulties with its cooling system, although the automated shutdown systems worked correctly. With the core reaction shut down the plant is no longer actively generating heat, but the fuel rods continue to generate excess heat and radiation and need constant cooling.

The cooling system runs a constant flow of water to take the heat away from the submerged fuel rods, but the pumping system requires electricity to operate even after the plant is no longer producing electricity itself—generally from back-up diesel or natural gas generators.

Petroleum Jobs For Any Novice Laborer

Submitted by: Russqf Simmons

Roustabouts are one place to start in the offshore oil entry level job; these are the sort of jobs that require a person to be in leading shape. Roustabouts handle the heavy pipes as well as other drilling equipment which might be required while on an offshore oil rig. The job also may possibly need offloading the supplies from boats, upkeep with the oil rig which consists of scraping and painting the rig, or other related work. Other duties contain changing the drill bits, cleaning and replacing drill pipe as required.

For oil industry jobs workers just beginning out, it really is important to have the capacity to work as a team performing 12 hour shifts, from 2 to 4 weeks at a time. You will need to work well with other people in this kind of stressful environment; otherwise, it is just not going to be as much enjoyable. As a roustabout, you may begin out by taking courses on survival as well as on fighting fires. You will need to know this stuff before they let you on the rig. Classes typically take place on land, where you’ll also understand about how a drilling platform works and the kind of machinery you may find there.

Jobs are frequently performed on heights, in dirty and wet conditions or stormy weather. Their job is ongoing all of the time in order to pull the oil from beneath the ocean floor. The work isn’t for everyone but for those individuals who are fascinated by tough challenging work, it really is the beginning of a career that will span decades as the job modifications and positions grow to be obtainable on the offshore rigs. Travel to and from the rigs is usually by helicopter.

Along with the physical specifications it’s a great thought for an basic level worker to have great hand/ eye coordination; practical understanding of how you can use hand tools; be able to reside far from home for longer durations; be mindful with the safety of himself and the crew in any way times; be on time for meeting the aircraft when scheduled. Working out on the oil rigs is truly a pretty good deal. Specifically on the more contemporary rigs, there are exercise rooms and game rooms, movie rooms and weight rooms. Phones are accessible at all times for your use, and the food is outstanding, hot, and comes in large quantities – just be ready to eat all on your plate; which is really the only rule inside the cafeteria on the rigs.

For those who have previous experience inside the military or the construction industry, the skills you’ve picked up will come in handy. Most guys who come in as roustabouts are in their late twenties or early thirties. Your typical roustie will enjoy offshore work, as well as being outside. Roughnecks and roustabouts who can prove themselves to be hard workers, show that they’re understanding about how oil drilling platforms work, and are able to follow directions will soon find themselves being promoted on a offshore or onshore oil rig virtually anywhere. Your pay rate will vary depending on what type of experience you have that may be related, as well as the location of the oil rigs you may be working on. Typical earnings will range from $56,000 to $65,000 a year, but for those with experience, rates could be greater – significantly higher. Work on a oil platform practically anywhere can be very difficult both physically and mentally, but for people who persevere, the rewards of a career on the offshore drilling oil platforms make it worth it.

FEMA accused of misusing trained disaster workers as public-relations workers

Monday, September 12, 2005

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is being criticized for misallocation of personnel in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. FEMA representatives said they requested volunteers from fire departments around the U.S., to handle its community relations campaign. However, a document FEMA sent to local fire departments asked for firefighters with very specific skills and who were capable of working in “austere conditions”. Fire departments around the nation responded by sending crews to the FEMA staging ground in Atlanta. Some of these crews were unaware that they were only going to be used for public relations work. Others, however, merely hoped that FEMA would allocate them to rescue and damage control operations once it saw their qualifications.

The firefighter’s objections are particularly poignant as one of FEMA public relations training seminars coincided with New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin plea for firefighters on national television, to relieve his own exhausted crews. It is unclear if FEMA’s request for firefighters prevented any municipalities from responding to Mayor Nagin’s request.

Some firefighters have objected to their use as FEMA public relations officers because their municipalities must bear the cost of their salaries, as well as endure reduced firefighting capacity. FEMA has stated that it sought to use firefighters to avoid background checks required of federal employees.

Firefighters began receiving their assignments Monday, September 5th. Among these was a crew of 50 assigned to tour the devastated areas with President Bush and the press.

Honda wins car, truck of the year, unveils Fit

Monday, January 9, 2006

Honda’s Civic and Ridgeline truck won the North American Car and Truck of the Year awards at the International Auto Show in Detroit. This is the first time a company has won both awards in the same year. The finalists were the Ridgeline, the Ford Explorer SUV and the Nissan Xterra. The awards are intended to recognize vehicles for their innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction, and value.File:Ford Explorer.jpg

Honda also unveiled its latest model the Fit, a US version of the Honda Jazz sold in nonUS markets. The Fit comes with a 109 horsepower engine, antilock brakes, six air bags, fold flat seats, full iPod connectivity, 90.1 cubic feet of passenger and cargo space, and 33 mpg for the city 38 mpg for the highway. A sport package will also include Honda’s first steering wheel mounted paddle shifters. The car will go against another two new Japanese subcompacts, the Toyota Yaris, Nissan Versa and will have to wrestle away sales from the category’s current top seller Chevrolet’s Aveo.

The car will start selling in April for around $13,000 to $14,000 as a 2007 model. The company plans to sell 33,000 units of the hatchback in 2006.

Many automakers expect industry wide sales in the US to be between 16 and 17 million units. Honda, which is Japan’s third largest automaker, hopes to gain US market share with the redesigned Civic and the Fit. Honda hopes that the company’s auto sales will rise 4% this year. The fuel-efficient Civic helped increase US market share to 8.6 percent last year, some of those sales were taken from Ford as gas prices rocketed to $3 a gallon. The US market is extremely important for Honda as it receives 64% of its operating profit from the US.

SpaceX scrubs Falcon I rocket launch

Monday, November 28, 2005

SpaceX called off the much-delayed inaugural launch of their new Falcon 1 rocket on Saturday from Kwajalein’s Omelek Island launch site. The intent was to launch the U.S. Air Force Academy’s FalconSat 2 satellite, which will monitor plasma interactions with the Earth’s upper atmosphere and magnetosphere.

The launch was delayed, then finally cancelled after an oxygen boil-off vent had accidentally been left open. The oxygen was unable to cool the helium pressurant, which then proceeded to evaporate faster than it could be replenished. A main computer issue, probably serious enough to cause a scrub on its own, was also discovered.

This long-anticipated flight was originally expected to be launched in January 2005, however a series of setbacks forced a series of delays, with the flight most recently scheduled to be in early 2006. It was intended to be launched from the Kwajalein atoll in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

The maiden voyage was originally intended to launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California with a Naval Research Laboratory satellite and a Space Services Incorporated space burial payload.

Staub Cookware: My Favorite Pieces

Staub cookware: my favorite pieces

by

Martha Parker

Im a big fan of cast iron cookware. I have several pieces that I bought over the years. In my research for the perfect Dutch oven I stumbled upon a renowned French manufacturer of cast iron cookware Staub.

Staub cookware is made with enameled cast iron (except for certain pieces). Because of that, unlike bare cast iron, it doesnt discolor or rust, its nonreactive to acidic foods, it doesnt require seasoning and it can be washed more thoroughly. Staub is best known for their French/Dutch ovens (or Cocottes) but they make other pieces of cast iron pots and pans. I have tried several of their cookware pieces and here is my top 3 list: The French (Dutch) oven or Cocotte: This French (or Dutch) oven is one of my all time favorites. I use to prepare my soups, stews, roasted meats, casseroles and even bread. This is a piece of cookware you will use very often. The great thing is that it has a black interior that is resistant to scratching. Furthermore because of the black color no staining or discoloration will occur (I just hate when that happens). Its really true that pot becomes nonstick the more you use. Thats because the cooking oil seep into the pores of the pot seasoning the cooking surface. You can use it on a stovetop or in the oven. The Cocotte has a special lid that ensures self basting. In the end, I just have to mention the absolute beauty of this pot. The exterior has a nice, glossy ceramic finish with the most beautiful (and unusual) vibrant colors. When you see them you just wish you had them all! The Cocotte is made in oval and round shapes. The oval ones are ideal for fish and poultry. Any downside? Yes, the pot is a little bit heavy but since its made of cast iron (one of the most dense materials) I guess thats how its supposed to be. The American grill pan: I love grilled meat and this is a way to prepare it all year long without having to light up your barbecue. Mostly I make steaks and burgers in it. I just preheat the pan on high heat and then grill my meat. I get a perfect nice brown or black sear and a delicious rare and red interior. The pan’s surface has high raised ridges that allow fat to drain off and leave some nice grill marks on your food. The pan has spouts on the sides so you can easily pour off the oil and the fat. The pan is square shaped and has a quite spacious cooking surface (12-by-12-inch) so you can grill meat for a small family. Again, like the Cocotte, this pan needs no seasoning and it becomes nonstick with time. Any downsides? The pan can be sometimes difficult to clean, but I pour some warm water in it soak it for 15-30 minutes and then wash it with mild soap. The crepe pan: Before I bought this cast iron crepe pan I was making my pancakes in a nonstick pan. But I wasn’t exactly delighted with the final especially after having tried the French crepes. I decided to buy the Staub cast iron crepe pan and I was finally able to make real pancakes. I preheat the pan on medium heat and then spread the batter with the wooden spreader (you get it with the pan). I wasn’t familiar with this cooking technique in which you spread the batter by rotating the spreader in the pan (one end of the spreader stays in the center while the other end rotates around the pan). After few attempts I mastered it and now I’m a pro. Of course, the pancakes are delicious with this pan and I can’t imagine going back to my old pan. Any downsides? It’s a little bit heavy but its a small price to pay for such delicious tasting pancakes.

When cooking with a Staub pot or pan avoid using metal utensils because they can damage the surface. After washing it always dry it thoroughly.

Las Vegas ‘chili finger’ woman has history of lawsuits

Monday, April 11, 2005

Anna Ayala, the Las Vegas woman who claims to have found the notorious “chili finger” at a Wendy’s outlet in San Jose, California, has filed lawsuits against other businesses, according to researchers at the Associated Press. Her previous court battles included the national El Pollo Loco chicken-chain, a previous employer, and even General Motors.

Ayala successfully won her suit for medical expenses against El Pollo Loco, after her daughter Genesis contracted salmonella poisoning from eating at the restaurant. However, Ayala lost another suit in 2000 claiming that a wheel fell off her car.

Ayala’s original account of the incident spoke “emotionally and with disgust” to the San Jose Mercury News when she described it to the paper.

“Lies, lies, lies, that’s all I am hearing. They should look at Wendy’s. What are they hiding? Why are we being victimized again and again?” Ayala recently told The Associated Press. Ayala is now in her Las Vegas home, avoiding reporters.

“It doesn’t prove anything,” family spokesman Ken Bono told the San Francisco Chronicle. “My mom has 10 lawsuits. A lot of people have lawsuits. Why would she sue for money? She has plenty of money,” he said.

Nick Muyo, a spokesman for the San Jose Police department, said not to expect new information in the case for at least a week.

“We just want to step back and take a deep breath,” Muyo told Knight Ridder Newspapers. “From a law enforcement point of view, once you establish it is a human finger, you have to wonder is this a case of industrial accident or is this a case of unreported homicide,” he said.

Las Vegas police searched Anna Ayala’s home on Wednesday, retrieving a cooler and other effects from her home, such as a makeup case.

Despite the incident, which has dramatically reduced sales at Northern California Wendy’s outlets, die-hard Wendy’s fans are still turning up for lunch, even at the outlet where the finger was found, at 1405 Monterey Highway, just south of downtown San Jose.

“We’ve eaten here for years,” a police officer told the San Francisco Chronicle under the condition that he remain anonymous. “They’re very nice people. When we work Spartan Stadium, we always eat here,” he said.

San Jose City Council candidate Andrew Diaz still eats the chili. And he witnessed the finger discovery.

“I walked away real slow,” Diaz told the San Francisco Chronicle. “I didn’t want any commotion,” he said.

Wikinews interviews Steve Burke, U.S. Democratic Party presidential candidate

Sunday, December 13, 2015

This article is a featured article. It is considered one of the best works of the Wikinews community. See Wikinews:Featured articles for more information.

Macomb, New York Councilman Steve Burke took some time to speak with Wikinews about his campaign for the U.S. Democratic Party’s 2016 presidential nomination.

Burke, an insurance adjuster and farmer, was elected councilman in Brookhaven, New York in 1979. He left the town after being accused and found not guilty of bribery in the 1980s. Since 1987 he has served as Macomb councilman off-and-on and currently holds the post. From 1993 to 1996 and 1999 to 2002 he worked as chairman of the Democratic Party of St. Lawrence County, New York. Among his many political campaigns, Burke unsuccessfully sought the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination in 1992 and recently attempted to run for U.S. Congress in 2014 but too many of his ballot petition signatures were found invalid. Burke filed with the Federal Election Commission to run for president in the 2016 election on September 18, 2015 and has qualified for the first-in-the-nation New Hampshire Primary.

With Wikinews reporter William S. Saturn?, Burke discusses his political background, his 2016 presidential campaign, and his policy proposals.
